Caluda’s King Cakes ships exclusively with FedEx service to all 48 continental United States. Shipping to Hawaii and Alaska may be available, but additional costs may apply. Online ordering with shipping is available 24/7.
Due to Covid19 FedEx no longer can guarantee their service deadlines at peek service times like king cake season or due to weather events that are an Act of God.
So all though we ship next day, Caluda’s King Cakes can not be responsible for Fedex delays. Fedex will not issue a refund on cakes that arrive late. They still honor refunds for damaged cakes and/or missing cakes. They are still a very reliable service and we haven’t had many issues since they changed their policy.
We can not file claims for you on late cakes or cakes that didn’t arrive. You need to go to fedex.com and file a claim yourself.
If you have a damaged cake in which the box is visibly damaged or the cake is slammed to one side, please take photos and you can make a claim yourself and get the refund or you can send them to us at firstname.lastname@example.org and we can file a claim and issue a refund if it is approved. It is more expedient if you file a claim directly with FedEx.
ACT OF GOD: In the event we have an Act of God events like the freeze that took place this year. We are not equipped to file that many claims and Fedex is not usually issuing any refunds for minor damage at this time. But you may still apply for it your self. Instructions here
We take pride in the preparation of our king cakes. All king cakes are made to order, so please allow at least two days from the day of placing your order for us to make and ship your cake.
Q: Is shipping included in the king cake price?
A: Caluda’s King Cake includes FedEx Standard Overnight delivery. Saturday delivery and delivery to some rural addresses will require an up-charge to FedEx Priority Overnight.
Q: What about weather delays or address changes?
A: Caluda’s King Cake and FedEx are not responsible for delays due to incorrect addresses or weather conditions (including airport closures). If Caluda’s King Cake is at fault for the delay we will send another cake the next available shipping day OR refund you. If Fedex is at fault you will need to file a claim.
Q: Can I ship to a PO Box?
A: Post Office Boxes should NOT be included as an address for shipping.
Q: Can I send the king cake to someone who lives in an apartment?
A: Yes. If no one is home, FedEx will leave it with the complex’s manager. If there isn’t a manager, they will leave a note on the door and attempt delivery the next delivery day. Keep this in mind if it’s possible the recipient won’t be home for a Friday delivery. The next day they would attempt the delivery would be Monday.
Q: What if I need to change the address of my shipment?
A: If a king cake is already in route and the address needs to be updated a $15 charge from FedEx will take place.
Q: Can I get a king cake shipped today by calling the shop?
A: It’s possible if we have any king cakes left in the retail area. Just call the shop and we’ll see what we can do.
Q: Can I specify a certain delivery time for the king cake?
A: Shipping carriers cannot guarantee a specific delivery time for king cakes.
Q: What about a king cake delivery on Saturday, Sunday, or a Monday date?
A: The normal delivery dates are Tuesday through Friday, depending on available shipping dates. The only exceptions are the two Mondays before Mardi Gras. FedEx will pick up the king cake on those Saturdays and deliver them on Monday. You can get Saturday king cake delivery but there is an extra 15.00 charge from FedEx.
Q: I have multiple king cakes orders that I’d like to ship to several locations. Do I have to enter each order individually?
A: No-The system is set up for multiple addresses – however, it is sometimes easier to do them one by one. If you have trouble with that you are welcome to call the store at (504) 218-5655 and place your order with us over the phone.
Q: I have a large list going to all different locations–can I email you the list?
A: Sure! Just call the shop and we will set up an account for you and send you an email with an excel template and instructions for preparing your list. Important things to remember when preparing your list. Keep first name and last name in separate columns, if it is a company make sure you fill that column in, don’t forget suite numbers even if it’s the only suite.
Q: How fresh are your king cakes?
A: Our king cakes are baked from midnight to the early morning the same day they get picked up. You receive your cake the very next day so it is as fresh as possible. We all find the cake actually tastes better the next day. A fresh cake doesn’t have time for the flavors to all come together… kind of like a good pot of gumbo!
Q: How long do they taste fresh?
A: Our king cakes will taste great for at least three days after you receive it.–but don’t open it up until your ready to eat it. It will stay fresh longer that way. Keep it in a cool dry area, preferably in a shaded or dark location.
Q: What about freezing your king cake?
A: Yes, they freeze well when done right. We would suggest wrapping the cake in another bag just to make sure it’s sealed well. When you’re ready to serve it, just let the cake thaw in the bag. You could also heat portions of it in a microwave, but only for a short burst of about 15 seconds.
